More voters trust it Donald Trump than President Joe Biden to deal with inflation and cost of living, their top concerns for the United States, according to the latest report NBC News poll.

The poll of 1,000 registered voters nationwide found that 52% of respondents said Trump would handle inflation and the cost of living better, while 30% said the same about Biden.

The survey was conducted April 12-16, days after another hotter-than-expected inflation report was released, which showed consumer prices were gradually rising again. trumpet attacked Biden’s economic policies shortly after the data was released.

As consumer prices rebound, the Biden administration is keeping the same message on inflation and turning more attention to other aspects of the economy: jobs, tariffs and taxes.

Biden’s intense focus on those issues was evident as he toured the key battleground state of Pennsylvania last week.

In a speech Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Biden announced that he would support a tripling Tariffs on China’s steel and aluminum imports, escalated economic belligerence towards China.

And a day earlier in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden focused on the tax code and jobs: “Only two presidents on record in American history have left office with fewer jobs than when they entered office : Herbert Hoover and, yes, Donald ‘Herbert Hoover’ Trump.”

These speeches come after months of Biden arguing that businesses are responsible for sky-high prices and painful inflation, and accusing the companies of breaking the law . Fisher Price And “contractionary inflation,” the practice of selling a smaller quantity of goods at the same price.

But as consumer prices stagger, Biden’s recent comments signal an effort to bring other economic issues and data to the forefront of voters’ minds.

For example, while Trump criticized Biden’s economy, the president doubled down on his claim that America “has the best economy in the world.” In fact America leads Developed economies rely on leading figures such as gross domestic product and unemployment rate.

But voters are not easily distracted by their feelings about inflation and the cost of living.

Only 11% of respondents said “jobs and the economy” were the most important issues facing the country before the November election. Meanwhile, 23% of respondents, the largest, said inflation and cost of living were their number one issues – both said Trump would manage better.

Overall, the NBC poll shows Biden appears to be catching up with Trump, echoing similar results from an exit poll. New York Times/Siena College poll earlier this month. The NBC survey showed Trump leading Biden by two points in the head-to-head, down from his five-point lead in January. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.10%.

But voters’ rosy memories of the Trump economy have been a consistent theme in early voting and continue to weigh on Biden’s momentum. Despite Biden’s efforts to refocus the conversation on other economic issues, inflation still appears to be an inevitable roadblock to winning public trust.
