Toyota recalls 110,000 cars and trucks due to airbag problems
Toyota was forced to issue a recall of more than 110,000 brandsnew models available shipped with defective airbag. The recall comes after the maker of Furukawa American Inc. Notification Japanese car manufacturer that contamination during assembly six toyota car model which means their airbags may not deploy in a crash.
The recall, First reported by Autoevolutionaffect the 2023 model year Toyota Tacoma, Corolla, Corolla Cross and Highlander models, as well as the Lexus NX and RX. In each case, the driver’s airbag may not deploy properly during a collision.
According to Autoevolution, the defect was first discovered in May, when Furukawa American alerted Toyota to a manufacturing problem. The problem appears to be due to contaminants weakening the solder joints that hold the power cables in place in the steering column. As a result, the connection to the driver’s side airbag may be faulty, which means it will not deploy in a collision.
The recall affects certain models assembled this year between February 21 and June 1. This means These are brand new models withdrawn. In total, Toyota warns that up to 110,047 vehicles may be affected by the recall. Automation reports:
“Agents have been asked to inspect and – if necessary – replace the spiral cable assembly with one manufactured outside of the suspect period. Owners will be notified of this recall (number 23V-480) by first class mail between August 27 and September 10.”
If required, owners will receive a free repair and Toyota will notify affected drivers over the next few weeks. Thankfully, the automaker has so far reported no injuries due to this defect.
