After making it Released in November Last year, the Toyota Prius 2023 went on sale in Japan. There is only a hybrid variant for now, with a plug-in hybrid expected to be available in March 2023.
There are eight different variants on sale in Japan – four trim levels of 1.8X, 1.8U, 2.0G and 2.0Z featuring both front- and all-wheel drive variants, each making up the total. plus eight variations. Toyota expects to sell 4,300 Prius units per month.
The cheapest 1.8X 2WD is priced at 2,750,000 yen, or about RM92,000 at today’s exchange rate. The most expensive 2.0Z E-Four is priced at 3,920,000 yen, or about RM130,000.
Interestingly, the 1.8U 2WD and E-Four variants (between 1.8X and 2.0G) cannot be purchased and will only be offered exclusively for subscription through the Kinto Unlimited car subscription service. In addition to the proprietary 1.8U, 2.0G and 2.0Z are also available on Kinto. In case you didn’t know, Kinto car subscription is also available in Malaysia.
The 1.8-litre model is the most fuel-efficient, with a claimed range of up to 32.6 km/L. For comparison, the 2.0-liter model is rated at 28.6 km/L, but its plus is 196 PS more powerful system power. Both the Prius 1.8 and 2.0 use a 4.08 Ah battery pack.
Toyota also says the Prius has some of the first Toyota additions to the Toyota Safety Sense system. First, there is notification of the distance of the vehicle behind, which uses the rear millimeter wave radar of the blind spot monitor to detect vehicles behind and warn the driver if a vehicle is approaching.
If a vehicle approaches from behind too closely, the system offers suggestions to the driver to deal with the problem, including contacting the police or the HELPNET emergency call service. If the Prius is equipped with the original dashcam option, it will automatically record the event with video data stored in a dedicated area making recording difficult.
