Toyota EV 3-row confirmed, I-Pace recalled, EV vs. ICE pushed back: Car News Today

Electric Jaguar I-Paces are overheating, and the recall seems to give the automaker time to diagnose. The EV vs ICE cost parity could be pushed up much later this decade. And Toyota aims to produce three-row electric vehicles in Kentucky by 2025. This and more, at Green Car Reports.

Toyota on Wednesday confirmed a Three-row electric SUV for US production starting in 2025. The model will use batteries from the North Carolina battery center and is expected to be built on next-generation software, electronics, and body/chassis platforms.

The Jaguar I-Pace 2019-2024 recalled about battery fire concerns. In the nearly 6,400 potentially affected vehicles, battery monitoring software will be updated to help monitor the situation and change parameters, and battery modules will be replaced if necessary. Although the problem manifests as overheating, the automaker has yet to disclose a description of the root cause of the problem.

And Ford CEO Jim Farley said Wednesday that, for most automakers, EV vs ICE cost parity won’t happen in 2025. Electric vehicles will remain more expensive to produce than gas-powered models until the end of the decade. But future generations of electric vehicles will accomplish it with great simplification and will likely continue to increase battery costs.
