tory lanez appears to be changing her legal team after being convicted last month and has hired a lawyer who helped get it Snoop Dogg acquitted of murder in 1996 to oversee his appeal.

David Kenner replaces Tory Lanez’s trial attorney to lead Rapper’s appeal efforts

Kenner officially replaced George Mgdesyan as Tory Lanez’s legal counsel. Mgdesyan unsuccessfully served as Lanez’s trial attorney in the California assault and gun case last month.

Kenner will now lead the effort to overturn the conviction through the appeals process. Notable attorney has also previously represented former Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight.

Initial reports suggested that Kenner was involved in Knight’s 2018 manslaughter case, however it appears that Kenner was not directly involved in Knight’s undisputed defense in that situation.

Kenner “Unfortunately there are so many Hip-Hop blogs” linking him to Suge Knight

Crime reporter Meghann Cuniff tweeted that Kenner was only representing Knight in a robbery in the 1990s, adding that he was “putting him on probation.”

“I’ve just been on the phone with Tory Lanez’s new attorney, David Kenner, and it’s clear to me that people need to stop assuming he represents Suge Knight in the sentencing case. He didn’t! He represented him in a robbery in the 1990s and got him on probation,” tweeted Crime reporter Meghann Cuniff.

Cuniff notes that Kenner is “not satisfied that there are so many hip-hop blogs etc” linking him to Knight’s hit case.

“Kenner was not Suge Knight’s attorney in his most recent case, in which he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a fatal car crash at Tam’s Burgers in Compton,” Cuniff added. “Kenner isn’t happy that so many hip-hop blogs etc say he’s like that when in reality he’s not.”

Lanez’s hires notable hip hop attorney who famously removed Snoop Dogg from murder in 1996

Kenner also famously represented then-Death Row recording artist Snoop Dogg during his 1996 murder trial. The jury in that case ultimately acquitted Snoop for the deadly 1993 shooting that killed 20-year-old Philip Woldemariam.

Cuniff continued to tweet, “Kenner has confirmed to me that George Mgdesyan is no longer representing Tory Lanez and that he is “looking at all options” for the struggling rapper.

“It was David Kenner all the way. Regarding post-conviction petitions, he told me he was considering all options. He may discuss this a little bit tomorrow in court, but important things won’t happen until later.”

For Kenner, his connection to the successful Snoop Dogg trial could benefit him in terms of reputation, however his involvement in the Suge Knight vehicle manslaughter case stems from from the 2015 death of 55-year-old Terry Carter.

Kenner “Sensitive about being involved in the case (Suge Knight)” due to a 28-year prison sentence

Following the plea agreement in that case, a California judge sentenced Knight to 28 years in prison.

Cuniff highlighted Kenner’s concerns about his connection to such a famous lawsuit and added that it was attorney Matthew Fletcher who actually represented Knight and brokered his plea agreement. .

“More on the 2015 case. Kenner did not represent Suge in the defense. That’s Matthew Fletcher. With all the issues surrounding the case and Fletcher, it’s certainly understandable that Kenner is a bit sensitive about being involved,” Meghann Cuniff posted on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Lanez will seek to appeal his conviction after being found guilty of three charges against him in connection with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion late last month, Shade room reported at that time.
