The ban is effective immediately, the memo said.

“Data privacy, particularly regarding student data and faculty research, is an important priority for the Florida State University System,” the Board of Governors said in a statement to CNN.

“Therefore, at the March 29 meeting of the Florida Board of Governors, the Board unanimously adopted an emergency regulation prohibiting the use of TikTok and other foreign actors identified as national security risks. in the immediate future, across our 12 public university campuses,” according to the Board of Trustees.

In addition to TikTok, prohibited technologies include Kaspersky, VKontakte, Tencent QQ, WeChat and any of its subsidiaries or affiliates.
