NBA players have long flocked to the golf course in their spare time. Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Steph Curry… the list of legends enjoying this round keeps growing, and Lebron James could be next to join them. JR Smith, James’ former teammate and current member of the North Carolina A&T men’s golf team, discussed the possibility of the four-time MVP taking his talents to golf on Golf Channel’s Golf Today
“I’d love to put him on the course,” Smith said. “For him, I think that’s amazing. Being in nature, being outdoors and away from people, you can throw your phone in your pocket, have a drink, smoke a cigar, just enjoy your time. I think it’s going to be a great part of his life and give him some alone time, some peace of mind.”
Unlike some of the biggest stars in the sports world, little video evidence of James’ swing existed — until early October when footage of the 37-year-old TopGolf player surfaced on the internet. To put it mildly, the swing needs… to work, and while longer clubs can be helpful, Smith has one potential coach in mind for James: 15-time major champion Tiger Woods .
“I don’t know if he [LeBron] I’m just saying there’s grace to perfecting that swing – or not perfecting it, but to being one of those who can move it early. I think it will take him some time, he will have to learn some lessons. I’m willing to teach him, but obviously I’m not the best either. He has access. I mean him and Tiger [Woods] is Nike [ambassadors]so they can figure it out.”
Woods played golf with NBA past superstars, including Dwayne Wade, one of Lebron and Jordan’s best friends. With Woods confirming at the 2022 Hero World Challenge that his schedule will be much more comfortable in the near term due to his long injury list, perhaps that will open the door to a high 6s of teaching. foot-9.
