You and your puppy can count on loads of fun in many ways restaurants, breweries, trails, no-tether areas and other recreational activities around town. Here’s how we recommend spending three pet-friendly days in Bend:

Day 1: Living in the City

Breakfast

Start your day with a healthy meal from Mom’s juice cafe. Serving up a variety of breakfast breads and bowls, like the chai oat porridge or the Sambazon bowl, filled with fruit and superfoods, it’s hard to choose among the unique options.

Fun

When your belly is full, go to Tumalo Creek & Canoes and rent a paddle board to cruise the Deschutes River while your dog is (hopefully!) at the tip of your board. The river cuts through the city, the mornings are peaceful and not too hot.

After patiently riding your board, it’s only fair that your dog can run around and play! Head to one of the many tethered hiking areas in the city, like Bob Wenger Dog Memorial Park.

This 18.8-acre fenced park features fire fountains for summer fun. The park also has a small dog area for puppies that weigh less than 25 pounds.

Lunch

Meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free people will all find delicious food on the menu at Broken bottle shop and cafe Ale! The majority of their fare is local and domestic production. And dogs will love the smell, because they suck the meat on the spot.

Leave room in your belly, because next is time to engage in Bend’s favorite activity: pub crawling. Or as we refer to it around here, puppy cow!

Bend has more breweries per capita than any other city in Oregon. And there are so many top, dog-friendly options to try!

Pet Friendly Brewery in Bend, Oregon

Start your journey at Good Life Brewing Company. Their large fenced-in “Biergarten” (open June through October) features lawn games, cozy Adirondack chairs, and live music. The brewery is best known for its Sweet As! Pacific Ale, but their entire line is worth sampling.

Next, go to Crux Fermentation Project where you can enjoy “Sunday Hour” and picnic in the pub while watching the sun set over the mountains.

The original idea for the large grassy area was to create an off-chain park attached to the brewery, but they couldn’t find an insurance company to execute the plan. However, dogs are still welcome to join the humans and bask in the warm sunshine on the lawn.

The last stop in this pup’s crawl is Boneyard Brewerythe maker of RPM IPA is insanely delicious, but more importantly, Dawg Grog. Made with used grains from the brewery, vegan glucosamine K9 and a vegan trace mineral supplement, at this stop your dog can join you for a treat. drink a liter!

Day 2 – Hiking at Lake Paulina

Breakfast

Fill in A broken angel food cart before going out for the day hiking. Chef Richard Hull serves vegan savory fare, and don’t let the vegan label turn you off! They make some absolutely amazing dishes like Mt. Bachelor Hash and simpler biscuits and wild mushroom gravy. You can’t go wrong.

Once you’ve refueled, it’s time to go hiking. Lake Paulina located in the Newbury Volcano crater, a 45-minute drive from Bend. The turquoise color of the water will make you think of the Caribbean!

Fun

Hike the 7.8-mile pet-friendly trail around the lake for good exercise and scenic views. There are plenty of places for your dog to stop and play in the water along the way.

If you’re visiting in cooler weather, consider relaxing in the hot springs. It is known as one of the most peaceful places in the northwest.

Get Fed

Back to Bend, hit up When clicking on Bend where you can choose from over 30 craft beers and join a list of six food carts. The dog-friendly outdoor seating area features an enclosed and covered patio with heater, bar seating, two large fire pits, and lawn to enjoy.

Day 3 – Smith Rock State Park

Breakfast

Get up early and get coffee and cake from Back Porch Coffee Roasters on NW Newport Avenue. Then walk across the street to catch a picnic lunch at Newport Avenue Market.

Smith Rock State Park

Smith Rock State Park is the destination of today. Best known for its ideal rock climbing, Smith Rock has plenty of adventure for everyone. Choose from hiking, trail running, mountain biking, or simply find a bench and enjoy the amazing views.

To avoid the crowds and watch rock climbers expand the walls, try the 3.7-mile pet-friendly ride Reverse Misery Ridge Loop Trail. If you want a bird’s-eye view of the park, take your dog for a 7.3-mile walk Summit LoopThe place has a great view of the park.

The temperatures can be scorching here in the summer, so be sure to bring plenty of water for both you and your puppy.

Go to Portland

When you’re done exploring Smith Rock, it’ll be a 2.5-hour drive back to Portland.
