Supersport 300 Race One

Valentino Knezovic led Ryan Larkin and Will Nassif through the field first as the 10-lap opening Supersport 300 got underway on Saturday afternoon at QLD Raceway. Nassif also took a turn leading on that opening lap, but as they began lap two, Josh Newman found himself nose-first.

Casey Middleton took the lead early on lap three as Jesse Stroud moved into second place ahead of Newman, Nassif and Harrison Watts. A few turns later, Watts only took the lead when the red flag came out after the two riders went down Turn Six, with the riders and their machines in positions that were clearly unsafe for the race to continue. Oliver Short and Jesse Stroud were the two riders at that final complex. Stroud has been on Tom Bramich’s championship-winning bike since 2018.

Finally, the riders go out for a warm-up, followed by a new four-lap race. This time, Harrison Watts was much better to get ahead of Josh Newman, Will Nassif and Ryan Larkin. Officials then gave a 10-second starting penalty to Will Nassif, which meant his chances of winning were gone.

Valentino Knezovic tried to take the lead, only for Casey Middleton and then Ryan Larkin to also take their turn in front. On the final lap, Middleton, Larkin, Newman, Knezovic, Nassif, Watts and Tara Morrison joined that party too!

However, the man with the nose up front when it mattered was Josh Newman, who once again showed his race car timed its runs at the right times.

Second place away from the cigarette paper was Harrison Watts, while Valentino Knezovic rounded out the podium.

Then there’s Casey Middleton in fourth and Ryan Larkin in fifth. Will Nassif crossed the line sixth, but after the ten-second penalty was imposed, it dropped him to 14th. That moved Calvin Moylan up to sixth, ahead of Tara Morrison, Mitch Simpson and John Pelgrave. Jordan Simpson rounded out the top 10, just behind Ryder Gilbert.

That victory extended Newman’s championship gap over Watts to a still very small 5 points.

Supersport 300 Race Two

Josh Newman, Ryan Larkin, Valentino Knezovic and Will Nassif were the main protagonists in Sunday morning’s opening round at Queensland Raceway. In that leading group are also Casey Middleton, Harrison Watts and Mitch Simpson.

They went into Turn Three on lap two but came out the other side with Newman spearheading the front, but Larkin took the lead later on that lap. Casey Middleton then took the lead early on lap three, and Valentino Knezovic followed him in second place.

Ryan Larkin braked hard at Turn Three the next time out to retire. Mitch Simpson also got involved and lost a lot of opportunities.

Harrison Watts then took his turn leading the front group, but with seven laps to go, Newman dropped back to the front. Eight-tenths covers the top nine at this point.

Will Nassif then quickly took the lead with five laps to run. Young Kiwi, Jesse Stroud, then took the lead in turn after posting a new fastest lap of the race. You can’t really keep up with who’s leading because it’s for the young and the young… Tara Morrison and Ryder Gilbert joined that leading group to increase the number to ten.

As they began lap eight, Casey Middleton was ahead of Calvin Moylan and Valentino Knezovic.

Less than a second covered the top 10 as they began the penultimate lap. When they took the plate on the final lap, Stroud was in the lead, Knezovic was second, Newman third and Watts fourth. Knezovic then got ahead of Newman and that’s how they finished the match, almost side by side, but Knezovic pointed his nose forward to deny Newman.

Will Nassif took the final step on the podium ahead of Jesse Stroud and Harrison Watts.

Calvin Moylan was in sixth place, one second behind the race winner, but closely tied with seventh-placed Tara Morrison. Also in that group was Ryder Gilbert, while Jordan Simpson rounded out the top 10 half a second slower.

Supersport 300 Race Three

The protagonists were also soon battling it out in the third and final 10-lap Supersport 300 at Queensland Raceway. Josh Newman was the early leader ahead of Valentino Knezovic, Harrison Watts, Casey Middleton, Jesse Stroud and Will Nassif.

That sextet was separated from the rest of the pack throughout the opening lap as they took turns taking the lead of the race. However, Josh Newman led most of the time.

However, with three laps to go, after a bit of difficulty, Newman was pushed back to fifth position. However, it wasn’t long before he quickly jumped back to second place. Harrison Watts moved forward, as did Casey Middleton.

On the final lap, Harrison Watts had the nose in front but next to him on the other side of the line were Casey Middleton and Valentino Knezovic. Watts, Newman and Stroud were also there.

In the final turn, Harrison Watts led Josh Newman onto the main straight and kept his nose in front of the flag to win by eight hundredths of a second.

Casey Middleton took the final step on the podium, three-tenths behind the winner and one-tenth ahead of fourth-placed Jesse Stroud.

Valentino Knezovic pulled away from Stroud to take fifth place. Will Nassif lost contact with the group on the final lap and finished sixth.

Tara Morrison passed the Simpson brothers late in the race for seventh place while Ryder Gilbert rounded out the top 10.

Calvin Moylan fell into the cat cage quite spectacularly after three laps. Justin Kaiser and Alexander Codey left early.

Josh Newman took the overall win and leads the championship. However, the top position is very close when Watts is only 4 points behind Watts.
