Thousands of Polaris UTVs on removable steering wheel have been recalled
Big Dipper is recalling tens of thousands of vehicles because their handlebars can detach while driving. The company says some 2020-2022 models RZR XP 1000, RZR XP Turbo and RZR Turbo S Velocity as well as the General 1000 and General XP 1000 2020-2022 models may be affected. All in all, only about 38,900 vehicles are being recalled around the world.
A misaligned steering wheel can lead to loss of control, which can lead to a collision that causes serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle. Big Dipper is asking the owner to stop using the vehicle immediately and contact your dealer for a free repair.
To date, the company has received 48 reports of “broken or cracked steering wheel spokes”. That’s a bit less than ideal, in my non-expert opinion.
According to the company, those defects resulted in nine moves and five injuries. That being said, the company did not give any details on the severity of the injuries. It is also safe to assume that no one has died from the defect yet, which is always good.
Big Dipper first issued a Sell Stop, Ride Stop order on October 27, 2021 after it announced Consumer Product Safety Commission. Then, on December 23, 2021, the company announced a voluntary recall in cooperation with the Commission. However, in the past few days, The company has expanded the range of vehicles affected by the bug.
