When the user dials in, they are connected to a fake rep who claims he will fix the problem for a fee. Once the user consents, the scammers get to take control of the PC remotely and remove the so-called malware once the payment has been made.

The US-based tech giant says it is investigating the questionable packages. The company is quoted as saying, “Microsoft is committed to helping protect our customers. We take appropriate action to remove any suspected unlicensed or counterfeit products from the market. market and hold those who target our customers accountable.” They also want users to not open any suspicious packages.

Previously, security experts have also warned users about some dangerous applications available on the official Microsoft Store. Once installed, these malicious applications infected the Electron Bot malware into the system. The malware has the ability to take control of social media accounts and set up ad clickers without the owners knowing. This Electron Bot malware can be infected through unofficial versions of popular games, such as Temple Run and Subway Surfer.
