Nick Swift has been called the Master of the Mini, and for good reason. His Swiftune racing feat has become legendary in the UK. He brings his different mini-films to the fore every year and always makes for a compelling show. He won mini race last year at Goodwood Revival for example.
This year, he took part in the little blue machine in a sprint during the Goodwood Members Meeting, for Group 1 touring cars. The only problem was that the grid was down. in reverse, so Swift has to start close behind and pass slower cars. It sounds like a lot of hard work for him, but the video was fun for us.

While the video quality may be more like 2004 than 2022, it’s still a great video to sit down and watch for sixteen minutes of high-revolving action. Group 1 action means mass production cars, as defined by the FIA, since each car in the group must have sold at least 5,000 units in the previous 12 months. That means you’ve got big Euro monsters, like the Capri or BMW 3.0 CSL, and American giants like the Camaro Z28. There are also cars that are more compact but still make the appearance small, like Volkswagen’s Golf or Triumph’s Dolomite.. As you can see from the group of cars through the Swift’s windshield, it is as wide and varied as any race car series can be.
It’s impressive that the name is aptly named Mr. Swift can catch up with, let alone overtake cars with a displacement of three to five liters, given that he himself is working with less than 1.3 liters. This just shows years ago how capable and amazing a platform was.
