This 2002 Lincoln Blackwood was ahead of its time
There are plenty of people these days who are willing to pay six figures for a pickup truck, and most truck manufacturers are happy with it as a result. sell you something for more than $75,000. Want a massage chair in your F-150? Ford can make that happen. But when Lincoln Blackwood was first introduced, it was a completely different story.
In case you lost it:
This special 2002 Lincoln Blackwood is currently for sale on Cars & Bid It looks like it’s in amazing condition for a truck that’s more than 20 years old and has over 90,000 miles on it. And considering the crazy new car market we’re in right now, it’s hard to see why so many people aren’t interested in Blackwood. Lincoln was said to have planned to sell 10,000 a year but canceled the Blackwood after building fewer than 3,500.
But just because 2002 was a different time doesn’t mean Blackwood still doesn’t have some cool features. The interior is essentially devoid of modern tech features unless you still consider the CD player and cruise control to be modern technology. But it has a self-balancing rear air suspension. And it also had a power-opening trunk lid with split tailgate that is still impressive to this day. Can you use a carpeted bed for tough truck stuff? Not really. But we’ve long since passed the point where people really expect a top-of-the-line pickup used to haul bricks and gravel.
If you’re interested in picking up this Blackwood, the price is still pretty low, at least at the time of writing. With four days left in the auction, the highest bid was just $5,100. No idea how high it will go, but we’d be surprised if it crosses $15,000. That’s still a lot of money for a 20-year-old truck, but how many other 20-year-old trucks have electrically operated trunk lids?
