When a train hits this innocent dog, it is universally agreed that he will live in agony until his days are over or be killed. But one rescue team believes there is a third alternative, and they want to try anything to see if their hunch is correct.

An emergency call to India-based Animal Aid Unlimited involved a dog hit by a train and seriously injured. When they got there and saw the poor creature, they were convinced they would have no choice but to take him down. They couldn’t bear the thought of him suffering any longer. They gave him the name Deepak.

When they brought Deepak back to his medical facility, the vet examined him. He was forthright in his assessment. With a clear head and a big heart, the doctor wanted to see if he could save Deepak but knew it would be difficult. Three of his limbs were crushed and required amputation. However, he feels dogs have the ability to overcome adversity and it is worth a try.

Doctors performed emergency surgery. Deepak may begin to recover faster if this happens sooner. The surgery took 5 hours, including preparation and recovery time. Now it was a matter of getting Deepak to the other side safely. He survived the surgery, but will he survive the infection and any other unforeseen danger? It took 6 months of hard labor. The medical team and volunteers made sure Deepak was not harmed during his rehabilitation.
When needed, he gets painkillers, as well as lots of love and care. His transformation is amazing!

Like his other canine companions, Deepak received hydrotherapy in the pool. He can strengthen his body without putting too much strain on the still healing areas of the pool. In the water, hunting for his favorite ball and working those muscles are his favorite activities.

Deepak was abandoned by his family because of poor health. Because of his injuries, he will spend the rest of his life living in the Animal Aid sanctuary. He is surrounded by other dogs with similar disabilities. They, too, have lost their limbs but still have a passion for life. Deepak is a testament to the power of a big heart and lots of love that is always with you.
