There are currently no talks with Tesla about a merger
United Auto worker (UAW) Chairman Ray Curry said Tuesday that he has had no discussions with Tesla or its CEO Elon Musk about a potential union vote by workers at an electric car factory in California.
On March 3, Musk tweeted that he was inviting “UAW to hold a union vote when they are convenient. Tesla will do nothing to stop them.”
During an online press event, Curry said Tesla could reject an appeal from the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruling that it violated US labor law and “restore some the worker was actually terminated.”
“It would be a good effort if they were interested in that kind of exchange,” added Curry.
“We would certainly welcome that opportunity,” Curry said. “It’s not about the whim of a tweet or anything else… it’s about workers in those locations having a voice inside their workplace.”
Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.
Curry also said he is engaged in ongoing discussions with Detroit’s Big Three automakers about the joint venture. the battery plants and the potential for unions to represent workers.
“Those things haven’t made the final decision yet,” Curry said, noting that they haven’t started production yet. “Is not. first the goal of the joint ventures is to ensure that the locations that are supplying components to (automobile plants represented by the UAW) are represented “by the UAW.
Curry want Synthetic engine, Ford and Stellantis to ensure a “level playing field” for organizational efforts. “Checking cards, neutrality and other things are clearly on the table for those discussions,” Curry said.
The union head said the UAW also wants to organize auto workers to work at startups, saying the goal is “to be able to represent any car assembly work that will take place in water, especially electric vehicle parts.”
Last year, the NLRB ordered Tesla to direct Musk to delete a 2018 tweet that said employees would lose stock options if they formed a union.
UAW has stolen millions of dollars from workers, while Tesla has made many workers millionaires (through stock funding). Subtle, but important difference.

Musk has repeatedly received much criticism on the UAW. On Tuesday, he tweeted: “UAW slogan – ‘Fight for the right to embezzle money from auto people!'”
Musk is referring to the fact that a local UAW official pleaded guilty to embezzling $2.2 million in union funds.
Curry said the union had introduced significant reforms and that its own auditors discovered the misconduct and referred the matter to federal prosecutors that led to the plea.
Curry, who became president last summer after his predecessor retired a year before his term ended, said he plans to run for a new presidency later this year. .
