Asteroid ALERT: Another 650-foot-wide dangerous space rock is flying towards Earth, here’s what it could do to us

NASA: Endless asteroids are constantly darting past Earth at incredible speeds, always posing a threat to our very existence. A few of them, the most common being EB5 2022, have even hit Earth. Thankfully, none of these asteroids are harmful to humans, and it’s a relatively safe journey for our home planet. However, on April 1, things could change. A giant asteroid 650 feet wide will make its way to Earth on that date. Although scientists currently believe that the asteroid will pass safely through our planet, things could change in an instant and the various space agencies that are tracking the rock do not. for any sudden change of direction.

Based on Spatial Reference, an asteroid named 2007 FF1 will pass by Earth at a distance of 7,423,318 km. The distance may seem too great to create any fear but remember that as far as astronomical distances are concerned, this is only a small number. And that is why astronomers are constantly monitoring this asteroid. Asteroids have been classified as a near-Earth object (NEO) and all NEOs carry a potential risk value because they pose a threat to strike Earth.

Huge asteroid approaching Earth

Asteroid 2007 FF1 is also known as the Apollo class asteroid. The classification denotes that the asteroid’s orbit crosses its orbit with that of the Earth. It has therefore also been classified as a ‘potentially hazardous’ asteroid due to the threat it poses given its size and distance from Earth. Although previous models have confirmed that it will make a close approach this year, an image of the asteroid taken by the Virtual Telescope project has confirmed that it is passing by Earth. It is very important to ensure that the asteroid does not deviate from its path, because if it were pulled by Earth’s gravity, it could be very catastrophic.

This asteroid was first discovered in March 2007 and this is the first time it has come this close to our planet. In fact, the asteroid won’t get that close until 2159. Moving at 12,832 km/s, the asteroid is one of the fastest moving asteroids in our vicinity. NASA has been on high alert for any and every near-Earth object (NEO) located in the observable universe. NASA has set up its own division called the Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) that aims to find ways to destroy large asteroids that may hit Earth in the future.
