The versatility of flat light in landscape photography

When you think of fascinating landscape images, you probably imagine dramatic golden rays spreading across the landscape and while that can make for great photos, it certainly isn’t. is the only kind of light that makes for worthwhile photographs. Flat light can be especially beautiful for a series of photos, and this great video tutorial will show you why it’s useful and how to take advantage of it.

Coming to you from Mike Smith, this excellent video tutorial will show you why flat light can be so helpful for landscape photography. One reason I like flat lighting is that it leaves a lot of room in post-processing to create an image to taste and emphasize the subject. On the other hand, most such days usually have relatively even and uninteresting skies, so you’ll want to rethink your composition a bit so as not to emphasize the sky too much. Next time you see a gray cloudy day, consider bringing your camera outside! Check out the video above for the full recap from Smith.
