Sometimes, I like to choose a low-effort model set. I wanted something relatively simple to build in an afternoon. I especially like when the finished product comes out looking like I put real effort into it. Bandai’s Various kits tend good at this. You don’t need glue. You can usually get a runner’s piece without pliers. Paint finish is optional. Bandai Spirits Demon Slayer However, the model kit has gone a step above when it comes to creating this Tanjiro Kamado figure.
Immediately, the box tells you that you don’t have to put in much effort. It shows no need for glue or paint. However, the extent to which it has grown is admirable. Aside from a few stickers, almost everything is done. Tanjiro’s face? The actual runner has different colors and parts for his eyebrows and the Demon Slayer Mark. His eyes, teeth and tongue? complex parts stuck together to form a cohesive unit. His earrings? The sticker perfectly covers the plastic parts. It means that when everything comes together, the finish is seamless.
I also appreciate that in cases where a sticker is required, it’s a very subtle touch. You may not even see them. The kanji “metsu” on the back of this Tanjiro character’s uniform is a prime example. When you build this Demon Slayer model kit, you will end up covering his uniform shirt with his happy shirt. However, the kit includes stickers for the kanji. This is because if you happen to be looking at him from below, you can actually still see it. It’s great that this element is acknowledged and included, even though someone may not see it. While I used tweezers to make sure certain stickers, like 7, 8, and 11, were in place properly, it was super easy to apply. (Button stickers are much more subtle.) But they’re handled in a way that makes it hard to tell they’re stickers.
What’s also great is the fact that he has to put in extra effort to make sure the color matches his coat. Like Tanjiro’s face, Demon Slayer The model kit ensures the carnival parts are already colored. They are also packaged separately, due to their posture. The checkerboard pattern is perfectly reproduced. That’s great, because otherwise it would be a pain. The angles described and the way the pieces are handled will make painting difficult. The lines may have been skewed, and it can be difficult to position them to dry properly. With stickers, the creases and repositioning of the fabric also means that they may not stick properly. The execution means it looks good even before you assemble it.
The only downside is that this set doesn’t include a stand. Often the manufacturer’s model kits will provide the parts to assemble one. Even if a figure has the ability to balance, it’s a nice security blanket. This Tanjiro figure can stand on its own. The ankle is even articulated. This means that you can streamline the placement. And as it’s noted, even with an active stance, I haven’t seen a problem with him flipping over. But I really have that concern due to the arrangement and wish there was a flat sole with foot holes for a sense of security.
The result is a pretty impressive Tanjiro figure. Doesn’t take too long to build. I’d say my work was done between an hour and an hour and a half. (I did spend some time sharpening a few edges, though.) It looks incredible. The way parts and molds are handled with model sets, you can’t tell someone to put them together unless you really get close. (Or examine the earring too closely, due to potential application problems. It’s fun and looks great on the shelf.
