Talk to Motorsport.comWEC team director Rob Leupen said the GR GT3 will start racing in Europe in 2026. It was previously thought the sleek race car would target the new WEC GT3 rules that come into effect in 2024. and launched in 2025, but it now appears the launch will be a season late. But there is a good reason for the delay, as Leupen said sports car racing.
“The date fits the road car aspect, which follows Toyota’s philosophy of having a motorsport hybrid car on the road. This is progressing at the moment.”
When asked a follow-up question about whether the GT3 could fall into Lexus Marque, Leupen replied, “At the moment it seems so. It depends on how it develops inside Toyota, but right now it is.”
Toyota already has performance models in its portfolio – GR86GR yaris And corollaand GR Supra. GT3 will join a crowded product line and must rank at the top super. It would be more appropriate if a Lexus raced with Ferrari And Aston Martinsand the GT3 would be an excellent successor to the RC (or bring back SC!).
However, Lexus plans to go all-electric by 2030 in North America, Europe and Japan. Does the GT3 fit that plan? Maybe rumor Twin turbo V8 engine successor of LFA it will be GT3 instead and all-electric LFA will follow in the next decade.
