When seeing a dog in a shelter, one may not immediately understand the depth of its back story or the sadness reflected in its eyes. This is especially true for Rhoudy, a three-year-old Terrier whose story stunned everyone at the Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina. Initially believed to be just an abandoned dog, the discovery of a small note left for Rhoody by his previous owners revealed much more. The message written by a child and accompanied by a drawing of Rhoudy brought tears to everyone’s eyes. Although brief, the message on the piece of paper was deeply moving, making it difficult for his caregivers to read. It reads:
“We love you Rhoody. I will miss you, Rhoody. But you will go home! And I hope your people love you as much as I do.”
After Rhoudy arrived at the shelter, staff tried to learn more about his background, but they were unable to locate his family. With nothing left to do, the shelter responded to this heartfelt message through a social media post, hoping Rhoudy’s human siblings would see it.
“We know how difficult it is to say goodbye. But you are very brave and strong. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him,” the Greenville Humane Society posted on Facebook.
The shelter’s response garnered widespread attention online, touching the hearts of many across the country. They aim to reassure people that Rhoody is well cared for and in a good place.
“He is doing very well. He went for a lot of walks and had all the toys you brought him in bed. He is being given a lot of love. Yes, he misses you. But he will always love you. Don’t you ever forget that, okay,” the rescue added.
Despite his challenging beginnings, Rhoudy is now thriving, freed from the life of a shelter dog locked in a kennel. He shows his true spirit to the shelter staff and clearly needs a permanent, loving home. Rhoudy is full of energy, loves to play with other dogs, and loves to be the center of attention.
The most touching part of the article is “So dry those tears. And put that smile back on your face. Because we’ve got you. We’ve got Rhoody. And we promise, with everything we have, to give Rhoody all the love you gave him during the time he was with you. We promise to find him a home that will love him as much as you do. We know it’s difficult. But we got you. We promise.”
