The ride-hailing service auction system has never been approved by the Ministry of Transport, APAD to investigate the issue – Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the Ministry of Transport has never licensed any ride-hailing service provider to use the passenger fare auction system and the providers are not allowed to do so. so, Bernama report.

He said the ministry was not aware of the issue but had directed the road public transport authority (APAD) to investigate the use of the system by ride-hailing drivers. “The agency will look into this matter and as far as I know, we have not approved any such system,” he said.

The problem follows the growing popularity of ride-hailing apps that use a fare bidding system, in which ride-hailing drivers can set the price for a journey themselves before customers bid, as long as they agree to the ticket price.

However, the system has raised concerns among public transport users as it will force passengers to pay higher fares for their trips. It also led to ride-hailing driver representatives calling on the government to regulate fares, arguing that price bidding is not a solution to protect drivers’ interests.
