The previously damaged Nikola EV truck caught fire again

The fire broke out almost a month after the electric vehicle maker’s initial fire at Phoenix headquarters is extinguished. At least 50 Phoenix firefighters responded to the blaze along with hazmat teams. The company suspects foul play has something to do with the original fire, but firefighters told reporters at the scene that the fire broke out due to a chemical reaction in one of the truck’s batteries. Either way, an investigation is ongoing.

Damaged trucks are kept in place for the company to investigate further after the June fire. The fire that broke out again on Sunday was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported, according to Reuters.

To add insult to injury, news of the fire sent Nikola’s already shaky stock down another four percentage points. The company had problems as of late. Last year, founder Trevor Milton was convicted of fraud. In April, the company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell off $100 million stocks at bargain prices. In June, the company said it would liquidate a newly acquired battery maker for $144 million. In the second quarter of 2023, Nikola received 66 orders of electric pickup trucks, only 33 have been delivered.

Nikola isn’t the only company having trouble putting out fires in their electric cars. New Ford F-150 Lightning caught fire in a plot this winter cause Blue Oval to pause its hugely successful electric truck production. a Tesla regular models like extinguished by firefighters only to re-ignite in the towing yard a few hours later. As of now, there is no clear strategy to completely eliminate EV . fires.
