First details about the 2025 Porsche 911 hybrid: ‘Significantly more power coming soon’

Porsche is preparing to launch its first hybrid 911.

The updated 911 – the 992.2 generation, for Porsche enthusiasts – will be launched on May 28 and the brand has confirmed that it will feature a hybrid powertrain.

It’s unclear exactly what form that will take. What’s clear is the fact that the power boost from the hybrid system will make the rear-engined sports car even faster.

Porsche has confirmed that the updated 911 GTS lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:16.934, 8.7 seconds faster than the current model.

Brand ambassador and racing driver Jorg Bergmeister said the updated model has “become significantly faster” on the track.

“We have better grip, significantly more power and the spontaneous response of the performance hybrid system is a big advantage.”

Currently, the 911 Carrera produces 283kW of power and 450Nm of torque from its 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine. The Carrera S increases output to 331kW and 530Nm, while the GTS has 353kW and 570Nm.

A report late last year in Car and driver says the hybrid system, which could be branded T-HEV, will have a small electric motor driving the front wheels and produce between 60kW and 67kW.

Electric supercar specialist Rimac, which owns 45% of Porsche, is said to have developed a hybrid system that weighs just 27kg.

The electric motor is said to be powered by a small 2.0kWh battery pack that is recharged via regenerative braking and the petrol engine.

There’s also an integrated starter-generator for the gasoline engine, while the report claims the 400V electrical system is designed for fast charging and discharging.

Regardless, Porsche says the new system has been tested in icy conditions in the Arctic, the burning deserts of Dubai, and everything in between in preparation for its launch.

“Whether at high powertrain loads in the harsh conditions of mountain passes or in stop-and-go traffic in urban environments, the new 911 has the can confidently overcome even the most difficult challenges.” for 911 and 718 models.

“Collectively, our engineers and test drivers have logged more than 5 million kilometers during test driving.”
