The most impressive upgrade of the Nissan GT-R 2024 in 7 years with a new look and atmosphere
After mysteriously disappearing from the US market for the 2022 model year, Nissan GT-CHEAP just reappeared mysteriously for 2023 is completely unchanged. Now it’s back in action in 2024 with upgrades in both aesthetics and performance throughout the range. Launched in 2023 Tokyo Auto Salonit’s the most impressive tuning for Nissan supercar since the 2017 upgrade. If that seems like a long time ago, then it is, but GT-CHEAP has also been rolling out since the 2009 model year. Congratulations on the 15th GT-R.
Right off the bat, we see new front and rear fenders on all trim levels, starting with the base Premium. Gone are the V-motion grilles that have been a signature part of the GT-R for the past six years. The new front fascia features an enlarged grille reminiscent of Skyline GT-R generation R34and the entire front bumper is reshaped to look wider with funny hexagonal auxiliary lights at each corner. NISSAN says that even the mesh style in the grille uses a thinner mesh to improve cooling and reduce drag.
The redesigned rear end offers personality lines that eliminate some of the steep accents in the current design. The iconic quad-shaped taillights also feature a new lens design. Nissan says the combined aerodynamic improvements deliver greater downforce while maintaining the 2023 car’s 0.26 Cd drag coefficient.
The GT-R retains the same powertrain as last year’s model, with a twin-turbo 3.8 V6 producing 565 hp and 467 lb-ft of torque. Output is provided through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and Nissan’s ATTESA electronic torque split all-wheel drive system. An attractive titanium exhaust system comes standard with pre-blued exhaust tips.
Also returning in 2024 is the T-spec version, as pictured above. Last seen in 2021, it adds a wider front fender and carbon ceramic brake propellers from top Nismo trim. There are also 20-inch Nismo forged wheels in gold, wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 tires with Nismo-specific compounds.
T-spec offers two exclusive exteriors color inspired by the old Skyline GT-Rs. Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple are the return of beloved finishes on the R34-generation GT-R V-Spec II Nür and GT-R V-Spec, respectively. As was the case before, the T-spec’s interior is covered in dark Mori Blue with semi-aniline fabric and suede used on the front barrels.
These exterior and interior colors are both available on the T-spec 2021, which will be limited to 100 pieces worldwide. Nissan has confirmed to us that the 2024 T-spec will also be in limited production, but it is currently impossible to say how many will be produced. Naturally, all T-spec models will wear some badge indicating their distinctive trim.
In keeping with Nissan’s philosophy of small but continuous improvement, the big kahuna GT-R Nismo gets even more powerful with the addition of a limited-slip front differential. Complementing that are new front and rear fenders based on the design of the GT-R Premium. But Nismo goes even further, adding a front spoiler, a large rear diffuser and a nose wing. New swan-neck rear wing provides 10% more surface area for downforce
These improvements should make the GT-R an even more formidable track weapon, despite the fact that the engine remains the same from the 2020 model year production, making 600hp. and 481 lb-ft of torque thanks to a turbocharger from a GT3 racing car.
In addition to power, GT-R Nismo always adds lightweight components to improve performance. Including carbon fiber for roof, hood, trunk, front and rear fenders, side sill covers and rearview mirror. The upgraded monolithic link also enhances torsional stiffness, and the aforementioned carbon-ceramic brakes, wheels and tires also work to distinguish Nismo as the ultimate circuit carver.
Once again, the GT-R Nismo is available in the exclusive Stealth Gray color. For 2024, connoisseurs can further differentiate their machines with the new Nismo Appearance Pack. It adds versions of Rays wheels with exclusive red accents, a clear (as opposed to body color) carbon fiber hood and an exclusive engine cover.
The GT-R is expected to hit showrooms this spring, then NISMO this summer. Nissan has confirmed that it is working on a successor to the GT-RICE and are exploring different levels of electrification. Nissan is taking its time to get it right, because it wants the GT-R to continue its mission of being the giant killer, and the new job means the current generation is likely to be around for a few more years.
