Time of Rivian R2, BMW’s cheap electric car, Bollinger battery: Car News Today
BMW claims it won’t forget about affordable EVs. Bollinger chooses batteries from Michigan. And Rivian pushes some futuristic models a little further as it continues to enhance its three existing models. This and more, at Green Car Reports.
Rivian revealed with this week’s quarterly business update that it has delay the appearance of R2, its smaller and more affordable R2 model line, through 2026, compared to the 2025 it indicated earlier. It says that the R2 platform “will open up global market opportunities” for the electric vehicle maker.
According to its CEO, in recent comments cited by Reuters, BMW won’t give up on entry-level vehicles when switching to EVs. That’s a bit different from the strategy Mercedes-Benz is following — even though BMW has a Mini.
Upcoming Commercial Bollinger EVs will feature Michigan-made batteries from Our Next Energy (ONE) and its Aries line of packaged mobile products. That could be a positive given that the niche electric truck maker, recently acquired by Mullen Automotive, ramps up production by the end of 2023 and the battery company has a reputation.
