The most exciting new route enhancements of 2022 — and the ones we look forward to flying in 2023

With United Airlines, getting to these popular summer destinations — and many more — from the United States is easier than ever. That’s thanks new non-stop service Its launch during the pandemic has helped make the Chicago-based airline the largest U.S. airline in the transatlantic market.

In fact, United’s new 2022 flights are so popular that all but one of them will return for another season.

The only person that will be disqualified is Bergen, Norway, which does not meet the airline’s operating thresholds. Amman, Jordan; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain; and Tenerife, Spain, are both returning.

In addition to return service, United is added flights to three new destinations next year: Malaga, Spain; X-tock-khem; and Dubai, which will later be operated under new partnership with Emirates.

The airline will also add four new routes to existing destinations:

  • San Francisco to Rome.
  • Chicago to Shannon, Ireland.
  • Chicago to Barcelona.
  • Washington to Berlin.

Eventually, the carrier will expand the service to the two largest European markets from the US: London and Paris. The airline will add a second daily flight between Los Angeles and London on March 25 and a second daily flight between Washington and Paris on June 2.

While the exciting news is all of United’s new routes, the carrier has pulled all the stops to make these new flights even more special.

Over the years, United has turned its major transatlantic schedule announcement into an annual tradition, with the airline tease new markets on its social media channels to spark excitement for flights. The airline’s network planning team even starred in a promotional demo video.

Prior to the service’s launch, United promoted new markets in airport signage and throughout the in-flight entertainment system.

And of course, the airline knows how to party as launch date approaches.

From commemorative Polaris pajamas to special amenity kits and meals, aviation enthusiasts should definitely try a United inauguration. Various executives often join the fun, and the crew is often super excited about the new service.

You might even catch a cool post-flight party, as pictured below from the Mallorca opening ceremony this past June.

With this large-scale transatlantic expansion, United is fulfilling its mission to become “the national airline of the United States,” a statement first shared during the press conference. Launch of Emirates partnership in September and has since been echoed by executives in recent media calls.

Whether United is America’s “national airline” or not, one thing is for sure: The airline now serves more transatlantic destinations than any of its American competitors.
