Hope For Paws, an animal rescue organization in California, received a distress message on their emergency line for a mother dog and her six puppies.
Apparently, the pregnant dog was abandoned in the desert, where she gave birth to six puppies. Thankfully, she found refuge at a plant nursery. The kind owners provided her with food and water and went to the rescue for help.
Eldad, founder of Hope For Paws, drove three hours to the desert to save the dogs. When he reached the path of the nursery, Desert Moon Drive, he decided to name the mother dog Moon.
The friendly and sweet dog came right to the rescuer wagging his tail. “When Moon heard my voice, she ran towards me like she was expecting my arrival, lying on the ground and rolling… it was such a sweet moment,” Eldad recalls. .
She knows he’s there to help and doesn’t object when he picks up her puppies.
Eldad was blown away by Moon’s trust and love and repeatedly called her “special”.
After making sure the pups were taken care of and treating Moon with a burger, all of the dogs were loaded onto the van to return to Los Angeles.
Moon and all six of her puppies – Andromeda, Nebula, Supernova, Comet, Lynx and Crypto – were examined by a vet and then put in the kennel together for a good night’s sleep.
Moon is about three years old and has an eye infection in both eyes due to a condition called entropion. The condition caused her eyelids to roll inward and irritate her cornea. After her puppies are weaned, she will have surgery in both eyes to correct the condition.
As for the puppies, all are in good health and are believed to be a 6 week old German Shepherd mix. There are five females and only one male, Crypto.
The next morning, all the dogs were bathed in warm foam before heading to the LA Animal Rescue. They are currently in a foster home but will soon be ready for their permanent home.
