The family raised the 250-pound “Dog” for two years before learning the truth
Few people have to question whether their dog is really a dog. If the place they got them said they were a dog, then why believe anything else? Well, one family in China had pretty good reason to be suspicious of their pet because their dog turned out to be an endangered bear.
The family bought their puppy thinking it was a Tibetan Mastiff, one of the largest breeds. However, when their puppy started eating large amounts of food and walking on two legs, they knew something was wrong. However, they took care of their “dog” for two years!
Being Scammed to Buy Bears
Tibetan Mastiffs are large, fluffy dogs that can weigh up to 150 pounds. So, at first, Su Yun didn’t think it was unusual for her to buy a puppy of that breed. However, the rapidly growing puppy has no interest in dog food and will instead gobble up a whole box of fruit and two buckets of noodles a day.
The puppy didn’t stop growing even when it was expected. Soon he weighed about 250 pounds, and he began to look nothing like his breed. The family didn’t realize what was going on until their “dog” started walking on two legs.
Su Yun said, “The older it gets, the more it resembles a bear. “I’m a bit afraid of bears.”
Bear moves to more suitable environment
The family kept the large animal for two years before they knew they had to seek help. So Su Yun contacted the authorities to inform them of the situation, and they confirmed that the family Tibetan Mastiff was not a dog at all. Instead, he is an Asian black bear, an endangered species.
Asian black bears are sold at very high prices on the black market, so it is surprising that someone sells them as a dog. Su Yun’s family probably bought the strange creature because they thought they were buying a Tibetan Mastiff, an expensive breed.

Officials had to tranquilize the bear before removing it from the family home because they were afraid of transporting it. They took the bear to Yunnan Wildlife Rescue Center so that it will be well taken care of from now on.
That bear has been part of the family for two years, so this can be a difficult situation for Su Yun and her family. But the bear is now in a place where it will grow and be well cared for, so that’s for the best for the participants.
