While it depends on how much you travel, you can save yourself hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars a year with elite status benefits. So why not start each year by just opening a credit?
The Marriott Bonvoy The program has the largest footprint worldwide, with more than 8,000 properties in 139 countries. Breaking it down, there are five levels of elite status, three of which can be earned by credit card:

- Silver Elite: 10 elite nights.
- Gold Elite: 25 premium nights.
- Platinum Elite: 50 premium nights.
- Titanium Elite: 75 premium nights.
- Ambassador Elite: 100 nights of premium stays (plus $20,000 in qualifying annual spending).
Let’s take a closer look at how you can achieve Marriott elite status with a credit card, all the way up to Titanium Elite.
Earn Marriott Elite Eligible Nights
A coveted privilege of Marriott brand card is 15 to 25 elite night credits that you get every year by holding the card.
Better yet, Marriott has relaxed its rules on Premium double night soak with consumers and business cards in 2020. So you can earn 15 nights from a business card and up to 25 nights from a personal card, giving you up to 40 bonus nights per year earned on credit cards. Only 35 more nights to reach Titanium Elite status.
However, it is important to note that you cannot receive nights from multiple individual cards. Furthermore, you must be the primary cardholder on the business card and the consumer card to combine them.

Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite ($35 value)
You can win Silver Elite status with 10 nights of elite eligibility, and according to our pricing guide, it’s worth around $35.

Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite ($800 value)
You typically earn Marriott Gold Elite status after 25 qualifying nights at Marriott properties.
The tier includes advanced amenities such as room upgrades, welcome gifts and an additional 25% bonus points. Gold Elite status can be permanent even if you are an occasional guest at a Marriott hotel.

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite ($2,475)
Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite is the third tier in the Bonvoy program and can be achieved after passing 50 qualifying nights.
New as of September 2022, cardholders get free Platinum Elite status just by holding a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card. With elite perks like Annual selection benefitsAdvanced room upgrades, dedicated phone lines and Free breakfast at some propertiesone can quickly go ahead with the money saved.
There are currently two ways to earn Platinum Elite status by holding a credit card: You can reach your spending threshold or just be a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express cardholder.

Spend on Bonvoy Boundless card
There’s one last way to earn elite-eligible nights via credit card: hit a higher spend on the Bonvoy Boundless card.
For every $5,000 spent on the card, you can accrue 1 night of elite eligibility. While $5,000 is a lot, it can come in handy if you’re close to hitting your next status before your next trip. It’s also important to note that this perk has no limits, so you can spend your way towards Elite Titanium status if you can afford it.
Combined with the Bonvoy Business and Bonvoy Brilliant cards, you can spend $175,000 on your Bonvoy Boundless card to win Titanium Elite status. That’s a lot of spending, but it can make sense if you have a lot of business expenses that are refundable or otherwise you need to spend a lot of money on a credit card.
However, there is a large opportunity cost associated with spending on the Unlimited card. Spend $5,000 earn only 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, worth $84 each Valuation of TPG. However, if you put this spending on a Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earn 2 Capital One mile For every dollar spent, you will earn $10,000 One mile, worth $185.
With that in mind, you should only spend on your Boundless card if you’re just a few nights short of reaching the next elite level. Otherwise you can give up significant value.
It’s also important to note that the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Credit Card – no longer open to new subscribers – earns 1 preferential night credit for every $3,000 spent.

More ways to earn Marriott elite nights
It’s also important to reiterate that award nights and free awards nights count towards your elite degree.
As long as you use free night rewards comes with many branded credit cards, you will move the needle closer to your desired elite status level. The same goes for hotel nights booked with points earned with your Marriott-branded credit card.
Make sure to factor this into Marriott’s elite status enhancement strategy. If you have three free nights of certification from different Marriott-branded credit cards, you can consider it three nights closer to your next Marriott elite status.
