The 18-year-old blind dog that went missing three years ago smelled his mother’s skin

At the age of 15, Binky disappeared, leaving his family in dire straits. During the time they moved to a new place, Binky disappeared in the process. They stopped everything they were doing to search for their beloved dog. The family remains hopeful that Binky’s microchip will lead to discovery. Despite delaying the move as much as possible, they eventually had to relocate. Three years on, and with heavy hearts, the family accepts that they may never hug their beloved Binky again.

Unbeknownst to them, an unexpected stroke of luck is about to change their lives. A compassionate person found Binky wandering the streets of Summerville, South Carolina in poor condition and contacted Dorchester Paws for assistance. The rescue was stunning. Binky’s fur was so matted that one couldn’t even see his eyes. In fact, they weren’t even sure if he had eyes or not! His fingernails were so overgrown that they curled up on themselves. He smelled terrible, and his teeth were rotten. The team quickly arranged veterinary care for him.

The team of veterinarians shaved off his matted fur, so Binky could finally see again. They began to treat his illness, and he responded with courage and friendliness, endearing him to everyone. Once medical treatment was completed, scans revealed Binky’s microchip, leaving the veterinary team excited to discover that he had a family.

They called Binky’s family to inform them of his discovery and their story left them in disbelief and overjoyed. The rescue team and his family were surprised that Binky was able to survive on his own for so long, especially at his old age. They don’t know how he got so far away from the family’s original home in Georgia. The shelter staff eagerly prepared for their reunion.

Even though they lived six hours away, the shelter team happily drove Binky home. His family could not contain their emotions and hugged him in tears. Binky, now nearly blind and deaf, recognizes his family by their scent after three years, clearly pleased and affectionate in their presence.
