The 18 best anti-aging body lotions, according to experts
In general, the guideline applies lotion pretty simple. “I recommend applying body lotion every day,” says Wesley. “If you recently showered, the best time to apply is within three to five minutes of bathing to help moisturize and restore the skin barrier that may have been disrupted by soaps or detergents.”
Although it seems simple, there are some mistakes you can make with lotion. Wesley outlined these three things for me:
1. Not applicable enough: Don’t be stingy with those things. Of course, you don’t have to pour the entire bottle all over your body, but be generous with the amount you apply.
2. Not all applicable: An example Wesley gives is applying lotion on your upper body but forgetting about your legs. Make sure you’re moisturizing every inch of your body.
3. Apply Insufficient Moisturizing Lotion: This may depend on your skin type or needs. Overall, you’ll want to choose a product that contains nutrients, vitamins, and ingredients that help keep your skin hydrated for a while. “I prefer to use body lotions that contain natural ingredients and less unnecessary ingredients,” says Wesley. “A thicker cream or an oil-based lotion, I’ve found to hydrate longer than a thinner, more watery lotion that just tends to evaporate from the skin’s surface. Ingredients like such as shea butterCold pressed oils, borage seed oils, and/or fatty acids like ceramide tend to have excellent barrier protective properties. “
