Tesla Model Y electric SUV best-selling Ford Ranger

Tesla overthrown Ford Ranger from second place on the VFACTS new car sales chart.

The Model Y is the second best selling car in Australia in the following June 2023 Toyota Hiluxwith 5560 deliveries.

It dethroned Ford Ranger (5334 deliveries) is in second place and is only 600 times behind HiLux.

So far, however, the Model Y has overtaken the Ford, with 14,002 units delivered to the former and 26,741 to the latter.

The strong month has helped propel Tesla to eighth place on the year-to-date sales chart, with 25,577 units delivered. It is ahead of Subaru and Volkswagen, and only slightly behind the MG.

Tesla is the main driver behind Australia’s soaring electric car sales.

Of the 43,092 electric cars sold this year, more than half have the Tesla badge on the hood. That’s despite the brand offering only two models, one of which is an outdated sedan in a market that loves SUVs.

Although they are not big sellers, the death of the Model S and Model X to the right-hand drive market like ours definitely expended some potential.

Along with Tesla, BYD is the main driver of local electric vehicle sales. To date in 2023, it has delivered 6196 cars, all of which are SUV Atto 3.

With the launch of dolphin – also known as Australia’s cheapest electric car – in the coming months, expect that number to grow.

Dolphin will fight it Grade 4 (just $100 more) at the bottom of the Australian electric car market, while GWM Ora located not far above them on the valuation ladder.
