Automotive News reported on Friday that Ford production has been delayed the battery electric version of Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. It no longer plans to build them in Cuautitlan, Mexico, to be able to significantly increase production Mustang Mach-E at that factory.
ONE received a Ford memo to suppliers telling them that Explorer/Pilot The electric vehicle will be delayed for 18 months while it moves production sites. They were supposed to begin production in Mexico in mid-2023, but production has now been moved to December 2024 – the TBD location.
North America CEO Lisa Drake said Ford will now dedicate the entire Cuautitlan plant to demand, and as a result Mach-E is still a bit hard to come by – and plans to produce 200,000 of those annually by 2023. Ford recently increased the price of the crossover from $1,000 to $2,000.
It’s hard to make the Mustang Mach-Es fast enough to meet the incredible demand, but we’ll definitely try. So starting in 2022, we are ramping up production and expect to reach over 200,000 units per year in North America and Europe by 2023. That’s 3 times our 2021 production.
