Tennis star Naomi Osaka says she will start her own sports company: NPR

24-year-old tennis star Naomi Osaka is starting her own sports company after six years with IMG, follow Sportico.

Osaka is working with her agent, Stuart Duguid, on a joint venture, named Evolve. Each person will hold shares in the company, said Sporticowhich first reported the news on Wednesday.

“I’ve spent my career doing things my way, even when people tell me it’s not what’s expected or traditional, Evolve is the natural next step in the journey. mine as an athlete and a businesswoman,” Osaka told Sportico.

Osaka, the highest paid female athlete in the world, stand out after defeating Serena Williams in the 2018 US Open final. In the following year, she was crowned Australian Open champion. She went on to win the US Open championship in 2020 and won her second at the Australian Open in 2021.

In 2021, many athletes rallied behind Osaka after she spoke out about mental health. That year, she said that she would not attend a press conference, citing the reason mental amount that it can happen to athletes – a decision that ultimately cost her a $15,000 fine. She later withdrew from the French Open.
