Teen Werewolf: The Movie marks the highly anticipated return of the MTV series after more than 5 years since its broadcast. But unfortunately, not every member of the herd survived the reunion.
While many characters experience temporary fake death scenes in Paramount+ movies, some actually die and are buried—the most notable of which is, of course, Tyler Hoechlinby Derek. The death scene was especially difficult for the actor behind the series’ protagonist, Scott.
“It’s emotional. Tyler Hoechlin is someone I really love and I’m an actor too and I know there’s a difference between our characters and who we are, it’s emotional to read that, ” Tyler Posey in particular with E! News ahead of the January 26 premiere. “Plus, I’ve grown to love Derek over the years. It has redeemed Derek from all the bad, every grumpy character he’s had over the last 12 years.”
But the actor noted that it was a very meaningful real-life story decision.
“I think that was essential for us in terms of storytelling,” he continued. “As humans, we often face the loss of a loved one, and fans have been dealing with it for years. It’s another way we can empathize with our fans and whoever’s watching. I think the way we did it was beautiful. He turned into a real alpha just before he died, his eyes were red and there was a chill.”
