Baton Rouge, La. – To help Mardi Gras lovers enjoy the best animal-friendly sweets the state has to offer, PETA rounded up Louisiana’s Top 5 types of vegan king cakes-and MJ’s Café and Magpie Cafe both earned places on the list! MJ’s CaféDonut-shaped delicacies flavored with Traditional Cinnamon and Chocolate Tahini, while Magpie Cafe delicious cinnamon pecans flavor dish—and it is taking pre-orders for Mardi Gras.
“MJ’s and Magpie Cafes are PETA’s flagship cafe for delivering delicious food that takes the gentle cows and hens out of the mix and injects great flavor into them,” said Ingrid Newkirk, President. PETA said. “Everyone can get the royal treatment simply by choosing one of the reigning animal-friendly king cakes on our list.”
Consumer demand for vegan food because of concerns about animals, the environment and their health has sent the vegan food market skyrocketing: 2021 will grow two and a half times faster than it did in 2018 – 2020 and is expected to reach $22. billion by 2025.
Other winners on PETA’s list are Breads on Oak in New Orleans, White House Coffee and Creamery in Lacombe, and Creme Conf Candy in Metairie. Each restaurant will receive one framed certificate from PETA, which offers homemade king cake recipes on its website as well as the icing on the cake: a three week vegetarian challenge!
