Tom Edwards was disqualified from the QLD Raceway results
We’re not pleased to report that after a perfect weekend in the Supersport category, an anomaly was found in the cylinders driven by double winner Tom Edwards during surveillance. after the race and he has now been disqualified from the results.
Although the official results are yet to be updated, we believe John Lytras will now be declared the round winner against Scott Nicholson and Olly Simpson.
In the overall championship standings, Edwards’ elimination will propel Olly Simpson to the championship lead ahead and we believe John Lytras will move up to second place in the series. We will post fully updated results once they are officially approved.
We believe the Bikebiz YZF-R6’s engine was made by a third party engine specialist who removed material from the cylinder head that did not follow the rules applicable during the Australian Supersport Championship .
I’m very disappointed for Tom, a likable youngster who displays an incredible level of bike control no matter what he rides. I would love to see him on a Superbike because I think he will prove to be spectacular.
That said, I have to congratulate Motorcycling Australia for stepping up their technical control testing significantly this season. In the same vein, I can imagine many teams breathing a sigh of relief as they have never been caught in recent seasons after illegally modifying their own machines.
After two competitors in the YZF-R3 Cup / Supersport 300 Championship were disqualified due to oversized throttle bodies at the Phillip Island season openerwe believe that at least one other competitor in these categories was found to be using a non-compliant machine in the QLD ditch.
The warnings have now been put in place, from here on there will be little sympathy for those found with a machine that does not comply with the technical rules of the respective category. Buck stops with the participants in the machine to make sure the motorcycles they provide to their riders are in full compliance with the rules.
