A few years ago, I tested the first generation of Nelson-Rigg’s Hurricane Waterproof Backpack/Tail Pack, which impressed me with its practicality, functionality, and versatility. Nelson-Rigg has redesigned the entire Rigg Gear Hurricane waterproof luggage line, including saddle bags, duffle bags and roll bags.
Like the original, version 2.0 of the Backpack / Tailgate Pack is made of water-resistant, UV-resistant 24 oz vinyl. polyester tarpaulin with electronic heat-welded seams. Instead of the previous 40 liter and 20 liter options, the new bag is available in a decent, decent 30 liter size. One of the key updates is the new 4-point Rigg Strap system, which uses a set of adjustable cam buckle straps to secure the bag to the motorcycle seat and/or luggage rack. After the straps are tightened, the bag remains in place even during active off-road riding. I tried my hand at the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, and it passed with vibrant colors.

The main compartment of the bag has a large top hole that can be closed by rolling down, the dry bag lid is protected by a quick release buckle. A collapsible purge valve makes it easy to remove excess air when closing the bag, and there’s an interior sleeve pocket that can hold tablets and laptops up to 15-inches.

The outside of the bag features a side pocket with a drawstring closure that can hold water or fuel bottles up to 30 oz. A large panel on the back is covered with MOLLE fabric for attaching other items, and a hinged panel on the bottom provides access to a waterproof document pocket on the other side. The panel also conceals a durable mesh pocket that can be used to store items for quick retrieval, or hold an optional water pouch ($19.95). Both sides of the bag have handles and rubber handles for attaching items or threading Rigg straps.
Large, adjustable, contoured backpack with a chest connector strap for added security. The backpack straps have outer fabric strips for attaching GPS trackers, multi-tool pockets or other quick-access items, and each strap has a clip to secure the water hose. When using the bag as a tail bag, the backpack’s strap can be hidden behind the padded, breathable back.
