Stulls to race more in KY, but keep Calif. Stud Farm

Tom and Debi Stull’s Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, annually one of California’s top breeders, will move some of their mares and racehorses to Kentucky. Tom Stull said that while they are considering the possibility of buying a farm in Kentucky, at this time they have no plans to close the California facility.

“We bought one-year ponies from Kentucky and we have some mares in Kentucky,” says Stull. “The wallet structure is a lot better there and we have more chances to get into the races. Maybe we’ll race more there.”

Stull said that Tommy Town, his ranch near Santa Ynez, California, will continue to operate and raise stallions and the couple will continue to reside in California. Eight Rings Empire Maker’s 1st grade award-winning son, will top the first season at Tommy Town college in 2023, and Stanford , grazing and kafwain will continue to stand on the farm. Grazen, owned by Nick Alexander, ranks second in progeny income among California’s top studs in 2022. Benchmark’s son has over $4.3 million in generational income progeny to the dominant male Thirsty , who has more than 4.8 million USD. Grazen is the state’s top sire in terms of 2022 bet winners with seven.

If the Stulls acquire the property in Kentucky, they have no plans to raise stallions there.

“I have mares there—we’re going to cut the California program,” says Stull.
