HowGreatisnate won’t be in any Triple Crown races but he could be tied this summer for Haskell Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park after winning an emotional head-to-head in the $100,000 Long Bracket on opening day, May 13, at the Jersey Shore track.
Transported from trainer Elizabeth Dobles’ base at the Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida, the Howgreatisnate made the long haul and then overcame the urges of jockey Jairo Rendon to pass. Cool exterior in deep tension. That’s three other lengths back Ninetyprcentmaddie in third place.

Dobles, who started training in 2016, owns a graded bet to win his credit, with war story won the 2019 Harlan Holiday Share (G3). Guarnere made the trip from his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to see horses in person in Monmouth Park.
