When you think of talking birds, you probably immediately think of parrots. But apparently parrots are not the only birds capable of language. Students in Grants Pass, Oregon, learned this first-hand when a fast-talking crow stopped by their fifth grade classroom for a chat.
“This crow showed up at our school one morning all of a sudden,” said one of the school’s educational assistants, Naomi Imel. Live Oregonian / Oregon. Imel recalls how the crow began burrowing into rooms and pecking doors before jumping into a classroom, where it ate its own snacks.
But this strange situation is about to take an even weirder turn. Not only does the friendly bird enjoy being around students (to the point where they playfully perch on top of some children), the crow can even talk.
“The bird might say, ‘What’s the matter? ” and “I’m fine” and “lots of swear words”, the assistant was taken aback remember. “It’s like a parrot. That’s the weirdest thing.”
Based on Oregonians, the crow is actually a 2-year-old pet bird named Cosmo, rescued from a shelter when he was just a baby. Now Cosmo lives on a local farm, where he affectionately calls his rescuer, JaNeal Shattuck, “Mom.”
“He would come right up to my bedroom window and say, ‘Mom, wake up!'” speak Damn it.
But by Thanksgiving weekend, Cosmo was gone, leaving Shattuck “gobbled up”. Apparently, not all the neighbors appreciated the talking crow, who also cursed and teased people. This caused Cosmo’s owner to fear the bird might have been killed.
As it turns out, a neighbor took Cosmo to an animal sanctuary, from where rescuers (unbeknownst to Cosmo can talk and live on a family farm) released him back into the wild. course.
The talking crow spent the next four days trying to return home to its owner. This includes visiting the local Planet Fitness, where Cosmo chats with exercisers, before going to find Shattuck at the local elementary school. Luckily, Cosmo jumps into the classroom of a student whose parents know its owner, perhaps the only person in town with a talking crow.
“He went to the only kid I knew in Allen Dale and knocked on the door,” the bird’s grateful owner recounts. Oregonians. “When he was in school, he was jumping around and saying, ‘It’s okay! I’m fine!”
After learning of Cosmo’s location, Shattuck’s daughter, Daphnie Colpron, rushes to school – where the crow spent 24 hours evading arrest by the Oregon State Police – with a can of sardines.
Now Cosmo has returned home to his family, where he uses his brilliant memory to build his already impressive vocabulary, including commands to his boss around family dog.
“He knows so many words, I won’t lie,” Colpron told the newspaper, it is estimated that Cosmo knows at least 40 words. “His vocabulary has expanded quite a bit over the past few weeks.”
