I like to look at Petfinder sometimes, just for fun. One day, I was sitting in a boring college classroom, and I caught sight of his little face. He is considered a Pekingese, but he is actually a Japanese Chin, and his name is Lawrence. He was scheduled to die of mange disease.
There’s just something about his small face, the way he stares at the camera from behind the cage door. I really wasn’t in a position to bring home another dog, but I did anyway.
At the shelter, I arrived to learn that he had been thrown by people who “found him”. The shelter staff believed they were really his real family so didn’t want to admit that they dumped their dog. I quickly changed his name to Ares, and declared that he was the foster one. But as time went on, I realized that Ares wasn’t exactly the kind of dog people wanted.
He’s weird, he’s clumsy and he’s got EVERYTHING. I also find that he is extremely empathetic and very approachable. He especially loves my own Pekingese mix, Thor. So much so that, after a few months of “retraining”, I decided that Ares had found his home.
Ares was still an idiot, still clumsy and completely indifferent to family rules. It is because of this that he eventually got the name “Loki Meili”. Loki because of his attractiveness, and Meili because of him is really sweet, and Meili is a norse god with the nickname “the lovely one”.
I understand why they couldn’t keep him. He was weird, and he didn’t listen to anything. However, it is the sweetest dog I have ever met. I don’t know what I would do without him. He and Thor are best friends, along with their new brother, a corgi named Ulysses. I love this boy, and like him, I wouldn’t change a thing about him.
