Sportier Escape Hybrid, Toyota Crown mpg, US engine for Rivian, Hummer EV recall: Car News Today
Rivian is having an American-made engine. The Ford Escape Hybrid has a sportier look. GM recalled the Hummer EV for sealing the battery pack. Toyota is said to be doing some soul searching on a master plan for its electric cars. And the full-hybrid, all-wheel-drive version of the Avalon gets the numbers for price and fuel economy. Prices and gas mileage numbers locked for Toyota Crown sedan fully hybrid 2023. For around $41,000, the Crown starts at 41 mpg combined, but step up to the Platinum version and its Hybrid Max system and you’ll get another performance-hybrid accent and a 30 mpg rating.
The 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid is one of several versions of this compact SUV to receive the Sporty ST-Line treatment available, as part of a mid-cycle refresh. But Ford doesn’t see it pivoting the lineup toward much greater hybrid adoption. The Escape Plug-In Hybrid also delivers efficiency.
Bosch, the Germany-based global supplier that was at the center of the VW diesel scandal, has for several years been a mainstay in supporting electric vehicles. And in South Carolina, it’s increasing American production of electric motors — a first for Rivian.
Toyota’s plans to develop up to 30 electric vehicles globally by 2030, with a relatively low emphasis on US electric vehicles, may be subject to change. According to one report, it has been discontinued on all those models — including the Toyota Compact Cruiser SUV — because it thinking about a more drastic shift to EVs.
And General Motors is GMC Hummer EV SUV recalled and the BrightDrop EV600 electric vehicle about an issue that could allow water to enter the battery pack. The company reports that the seal procedure has changed.
