Official launch start in Malaysia is 2023 Honda Vario 160 the scooter is priced at RM 9,988 for the base model in three colors – Vivacity Red, Pearl Blue and Sword Silver Metallic – available from December 2022. The fourth color option is Matte Charcoal Gray Metallic, priced at RM10,298. and available from February 2023, all prices excluding road tax, insurance and registration, and come with a two-year or 20,000 km warranty against manufacturing defects.
First seen in Malaysia during a preview at the 2022 Malaysian Grand Prix in October, the Vario 160 comes with a 157 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Power for Vario 160 is rated at 15.3 hp at 8,500 rpm and maximum torque of 13.8 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
This compares with the base price of the 2020 Vario 150 of RM7,499 and power of 13.1hp at 8,500rpm with 13.4Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the 14-inch rear wheel of the Vario 160 through a belt drive and CVT transmission while the front wheel is also a 14-inch type, with 100/80 and 120/70 tubeless tires.
Standard equipment is single-channel ABS on the front wheels, with braking performed by single hydraulic discs front and rear. Meanwhile, the suspension uses a telescopic fork at the front and a single shock absorber that can be adjusted for preload at the rear.
In terms of driving convenience, the Vario 160 is equipped with a Smart Key system, allowing keyless start as well as alarm and callback. Other equipment includes a USB-A charging port with an 18-liter storage compartment under the saddle.
Inside the cockpit, a digital LCD meter displays essential information along with a fuel consumption gauge. The weight of the Vario 160 is listed at 117 kg with a 5.5 liter fuel tank while the saddle height is set at 778 mm.
