Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is currently kept for free

Three-eyed rig shuffler Sam Fisher hasn’t starred in his own game since 2013’s Blacklist, but Ubisoft is now releasing the third and arguably best game in the series, 2005 Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. The archive is free if you download it before November 25.

Of course, Ubisoft is also currently being heavily criticized by their own employees. Earlier this month, A Better Ubisoft staff group start a petition, open to all, asking for assistance in pursuing their claims. They want Ubisoft to do more to remove alleged abusers from the company and provide employees a better “seat at the table” when it comes to policy changes.

I remember Chaos Theory mainly for its multiplayer, which was a problem since none of the multiplayer modes worked anymore. Upon release, Chaos Theory featured a great co-op mode, with levels specifically designed to encourage teamwork between two players, and a great asymmetrical spy mode versus mercenaries. . Mercenaries are like typical military grunts, while Spy has non-lethal weapons and must use stealth and mobility to win. It’s great fun, gliding around in the dark and suffocating your friends.

These modes are part of why Chaos Theory is remembered as the pinnacle of the series. Sam Fisher’s subsequent murders are interesting, but cooperation never again feels as delicate as it does here.

But the campaign is also very good and free. To capture the game, go to this page on the Ubisoft site. You’ll need a Ubisoft Connect account to claim it; Ubisoft Connect was formerly known as Uplay. Log in or register and it will be added to your account. You will then need to launch or download Ubisoft Connect to play.

While not rather Free, Steam also has a pretty good discount on Chaos theory right now, 75% off, is £2.14 / €2.50. And if you want to enjoy your nostalgia without having to wrap yourself up in its stale design, I recommend this game as Let’s Play by original creative director Clint Hocking from 2016 (embedded above).
