SPENCE-THURMAN, TANK-RYAN, SERRANO, BOO-BOO, MORE… || FIGHTHYPE.COM

MAGNO's ROOM Envelope: SPENCE-THURMAN, TANK-RYAN, SERRANO, BOO-BOO, MORE...

Every Thursday at Fight Hype, we dedicate a space of video content to a good, old-fashioned article about money being shot out of the depths of my bulging, bulbous bag. So get ready for some notorious Magno-rific gooey, salty, sometimes NSFW facts. This week we have comments/questions regarding Spence-Thurman, Tank-Ryan, PBC, Amanda Serrano, Demetrius Andrade, etc.

Spence-Thurman?

Hello Paul.

Hope all is well on your side

What is your opinion on Errol Spence stepping up to take on Keith Thurman? Do you think he will stay at that weight and why is he? I found that weight class extremely boring. Or is this a response to Crawford. Also, does Thurman stand a chance or could this be a painful failure?

your thoughts please.

– B.C

Hey BC

Honestly, all of this is quite confusing. My only guess is that both Spence and Thurman are using this as a test match at 154th. If not, what’s the point of going up a division when it’s already mandated by the WBC title defense 147 lb. It can’t be because one or both of them are overweight, because there’s plenty of time between now and April to get down to the welder class limit if that’s the case.

Unfortunately, I consider this the shot most likely to kill a Spence-Crawford fight. If Spence does well in 154 against Thurman, I think he’ll stay at 154. Then the wheel will move for Spence to challenge Jermell Charlo for the undisputed title. I warned that this was a possibility if Spence-Crawford didn’t happen. Spence has options, Crawford doesn’t. And it looks like Spence is turning to one of those options, picking Thurman as a competitor and also ticking off the weight gain. Without the Crawford match, all that’s left of welterweight are mandatory challenges from Jaron Ennis and winner Eimantas Stanionis-Vergil Ortiz Jr.– both high-risk/reward propositions relatively low.

Spence-Thurman himself was a solid opponent. I don’t think Thurman has the guts to do the kind of trench work he needs to defeat Spence. Spence’s stab will keep Thurman’s distance from him, and I think Thurman will probably stay there, content with doing enough to avoid punishment and performing a reasonable act of denial to some degree when loser. I say Spence won by a certain decision, in the 117-111 range.

PBC on TV, Ryan vs Tank, Amanda Serrano

Hi, Magno.

Hope you and your family are well.

I’m expecting some sort of announcement this year about new contracts with PBC and Showtime. The FOX contract has expired, but there’s not much they can do anyway. Hopefully they can work something out with Paramount Plus as there have been reports that Showtime won’t continue as a standalone network.

Regarding Ryan vs Tank, hopefully I’m wrong and the fight will come, but see, time will tell.

For my girl, Amanda Serrano, it was nice to see her make a lot of money, but I believe she lost her chance to beat Taylor in their first match. In the rematch, Taylor will try to overtake her with home advantage, I just don’t see my girl getting the decision. I just don’t see the fire I saw in her before she became a star. She seems complacent having reached the pinnacle of her career. But again, very happy because she earns a lot of money and will be able to live comfortably for the rest of her life.

Hey Benjamin.

I have absolutely no interest in any network/broadcast content. Living in Mexico, that’s not a problem for me. I hate to see any of the big 4 move away from boxing. But I guess the audience we want to nurture for the future of the sport isn’t really watching network television anymore. If the rumors are true and Showtime is indeed merged with Paramount Plus, boxing won’t be affected as much. In fact, it can facilitate growth because the product will be more accessible and easier to discover for younger consumers. Whatever happens, I just hope the fee walls shrink and accessibility increases.

As Gervonta Davis took to the ring on Saturday, I couldn’t help but think about how frantic the atmosphere was for Tank-Ryan. Boxing needs a scene like that. But, as I’ve said many times before, I highly doubt that going into April this fight is still intact.

Not to devalue anything you’ve said (sounds like “about the money”), but I think it’s amazing that we’ve come to a point in the old, rigidly minded sport. This is when women are not the talkers when discussing an issue. female martial artist. A boxer is a fighter, a competitor is a competitor, a human is a human being. Serrano’s problems are a factor in all boxing. That’s Hagler’s old saying about how hard it is to get up and work on the road at 5 a.m. when you’re sleeping in silk pajamas.

Boo-boo dispute

Happy New Year Paul!

The first time I wrote in, I read the bag, brother! Your knowledge of the game is very much respected and appreciated, hope you keep dropping the gem big dog – keep doing your thing. All that said, I must respectfully retract Demetrius Andrade’s PPV performance review. I think that’s a bit too important for an inactive guy to come forward and open a PPV card. Andrade fought with urgency, putting on a solid performance and ramping up the pace for most of the match.

In my opinion, the transition from 160 to 168 has more to do with Andrade descending in time, more than his return to the old rhythm but could I be wrong?

Finally, before I leave, I really appreciate your skimming analysis, so I wanted to know how you view the fights going between Boo-Boo and the following players; Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant, & David Benavidez?

Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2023!

-Bazil

Hey Bazil.

Maybe I was too strict. Maybe. Maybe I just adjusted myself to see the worst when I saw Andrade. I’m willing to admit that. He certainly gives a lot of reasons to build that kind of bias. At the same time, however, Andrade’s ultimate decision was to stay inactive and gain weight, so, if those were factors in his performance, they were the consequences of his own actions. However, I certainly wouldn’t say that he fought urgently. I think he came out quickly and then settled in a comfortable groove. I’ve noticed him trying to get up to speed here and there, but he never tries too hard. That’s not his personality– and never will– become a killer. There’s no denying his skill, though.

As for the matches you mentioned…

I think Andrade Jermall’s verses will be a real doze, as will most of the fights between cautious/clinically natural counterattackers. It will certainly be an important and competitive match, but only the real, connoisseurs of tactical boxing will be entertained. I think Charlo can get through it, win an extra time or two with his colorful punches.

I like Caleb Plant, but I think Andrade will be a tough opponent in terms of style for him. Much of what Plant does, Andrade does it better and more intuitively. Boo-Boo will nullify Plant’s best assets and make a decision 116-112.

People will want to say that Benavidez’s speed of work and aggression will surpass Andrade’s. In fact, more often than not, a well-trained, defensively minded fighter will slow down and delegate the task to a mentally tougher opponent than vice versa. Observers will be surprised at how slow and “out of place” Benavidez is in front of Andrade. The question, however, is whether Andrade can make a decision in a melee fight by merely stopping Benavidez’s advance. I don’t think he can. Benavidez’s belligerence, though muted to a large extent, will lead him to make controversial decisions, with many saying Andrade deserves the nod.

About me

Hello dear Mag-Man!

I just finished reading your last envelope – I’ve become a huge fan. I couldn’t help but laugh at the last letter, a stupid letter. I love the fact that you allowed yourself to respond kindly to an obnoxious, problematic reader.

Now you have an obligation to all your fans! Tell us how you’re living, man. By the way, do you receive a lot of hate mail?

And thanks for the lousy lesson in answering a madman, my friend. Please continue to uphold.

— Carlos, from Hermosillo, Mexico.

Hey Carlos.

Thanks for reading… and for helping me get rid of that bedwetting. I get TONS of hate mail, but that’s okay. Love you or hate you, people respond and react means you’ve got their attention. I don’t get paid to be loved, I get paid to draw eyeballs.

I rarely go into my personal life or history. I just don’t find it too important in what I write. But I will make an exception this week. I grew up around boxing. My uncle is a professional athlete and I’ve almost been to the gym since I could walk. I took a break from active boxing for a few years and then finally found it again in my twenties. I worked around gyms for a while and then got a job offer as co-head coach at what was supposed to be a famous gym in Mexico, teaching martial arts. young artist “American Style”. I also manage in Mexico and have done some advertising. That boxing attempt failed, in large part thanks to the Narco Wars here during Felipe Calderon’s presidency. Things went awry and it was impossible to run an honest, secure business in those brutally tumultuous times. I still live in Mexico, in the state of Michoacan. I used to work as a bodyguard here, at the same time as a teacher and some other miscellaneous jobs that I don’t discuss easily. Then my writing career started to take off and I’ve been doing it ever since. It’s an adventure. I’m old and tired, so it’s good that my battle is now limited to dealing with assholes who write me hateful hate letters.
