Volunteers with rescue group The Animal Pad received a call about a puppy lying in the middle of the road. He remained in the same place where his master had left him. What a heartbreaking sight to witness! Just as rescuers arrived, the weather took a turn for the worse. The puppy got scared and ran away. That’s when rescuers received a tornado warning. The rescuers were stunned. They had never received a tornado warning in San Diego before. Now, they must race against time to get the dog to safety. If only they could catch him!

The puppy ran into the bushes, and rescuers followed. There were cacti everywhere and he was stuck. He tried to pull out the thorns but to no avail. Armed with chicken, both women advanced. A rescuer, Lauren, was also trapped by a cactus (right on her boat!). “It was a painful experience,” she said.

Lauren had a catching pole and she used it to pet the dog so it wouldn’t be afraid of it. The puppy growled and showed its teeth. But he knew he needed their help. He sat in front of them, lifted his legs, and showed them one of the cacti that had trapped him. It was painful and he wanted them to make it better.

Rescuers finally managed to put the arresting pole around his neck and both men sobbed. They were so excited to get their sweet boy into their truck, but then the unthinkable happened! One of the rescuers left the hazard exposed the entire time and the truck’s battery ran out. It won’t start!
Will they find a way to get the puppy back to the rescue center? Play The Dodo’s video posted below to find out what happens next. We were so relieved that the puppy, now named Pete, was rescued in time!
