In addition to those killed, hostilities in the Southern Unity State affected at least 28 villages and settlements – with about 12 people injured, 37 women and children abducted.

Horrible sexual assaults

Many abductees have experienced sexual violence, including girls as young as eight years old.

A total of 131 cases of rape and gang rape were recorded, including one Nine-year-old girl gang raped to death.

UNMISS identified joint forces of the Government and allied groups/militia believed to operate under the command of officials of Koch and Mayendit counties as the main perpetrators of violations and abuses of personnel. permission.

SPLM/A-IO (RM) also caused attacks in Mirmir Payam, Koch County.

The chief of the delegation of the Secretary-General, Nicholas Haysom, said that human rights abuses were carried out with impunity: “Governments have an obligation to protect civilians, investigate allegations of human rights abuses and prosecute suspected perpetrators must be held accountable to fair trial standards,” he said.
