Sources say the Grizzlies get Marcus Smart from the Celtics in a 3-team deal involving Kristaps Porzingis and Tyus Jones
The Washington shaman is completing a three-way agreement with Boston Celtics And Grizzly Memphis that will send Smart Marcus to the Grizzlies, Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics and Tyus Jones with the Wizards, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Grizzlies are sending the #25 pick on Thursday night and the 2024 first-round pick to the Celtics, sources told Wojnarowski.
Sources tell Wojnarowski the Celtics are submitting a 35th pick on Thursday to the Wizards in the deal.
Porzingis is opting into its $36 million player option for the 2023-2024 season, Wojnarowski reports.
Earlier on Wednesday, a three-team trade between the Celtics, Laser cutting and the Mages who saw the Celtics win Porzingis and the land of the Clippers Malcolm Brogdon collapsed, sources told Wojnarowski.
Sources told Wojnarowski the Celtics don’t want to wait any deeper on Wednesday night when it comes to completing the proposed tripartite transaction and pivoting away from bringing the Clippers into the deal.
In that proposed transaction, the Wizards will receive Marcus Morris, Amir coffee and the 30th pick in Thursday’s draft from the Clippers, plus transitions Danilo Gallinari from Boston, sources told Wojnarowski.
During his nine seasons with Boston, Smart averaged 10.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He was the Celtics’ first pick in the 2014 draft.
Porzingis averaged a career-high 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 tackles in 65 games for the Wizards this past season.
Jones averaged a career-high 10.3 points and 5.2 assists in 80 games for Memphis last season.
