For the fourth time in 15 years, the Alfred Z. Solomon Conventionary Trust of Saratoga Springs, NY has provided a grant that allows the Chaplaincy of the New York Speedway to purchase a vehicle to transport the casket miners on three roads. New York Racing Association (Saratoga Racecourse, Belmont Park and Aqueduct Raceway), as well as Saratoga Ranches. to medical appointments, groceries, and various program activities administered by the NY Chaplain.
“It’s difficult to fully convey the importance of having a reliable means of moving food, clothing and people around the backseat area,” said Humberto Chavez, chief chaplain and chief executive officer of the New York chaplain, said. “Mr Solomon had a vision when creating this trust to help charities in the Saratoga area and I hope people think of him every time they step on the van bearing his name. or see it fly over the backseat and around town.”
The new minivan will replace one that already has more than 200,000 miles on the odometer. For the past 15 years, the Solomon Trust has helped the NY chaplain purchase a 15-passenger van and two cargo vans.
Solomon, who lives in Gansevoort, NY and New York City, is a women’s hat industry leader, horse racing enthusiast and philanthropist. A race named in his honor on the opening day of the Saratoga encounter was held during the last six years of his life.
He died on September 4, 2004 at the age of 104. The Alfred Z. Solomon Probate Trust of Saratoga Springs, NY was founded in 2005 to benefit science, medical and non-profit organizations economic, educational, cultural, religious and philanthropic by sponsoring projects and programs in memory of Solomon.
